Promises

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Since the release of my first print book (no matter how many times I say this, it will ALWAYS require a *squee*!!!), I have promised you and myself that I would post a picture of me holding it like a proud author! Unfortunately, I do not own a digital camera, and my BFF who I usually steal it from, has been busy and away with business. I have now come to the conclusion that I need my own, especially with baby boy on the way. I’m a photo maniac and disposables just won’t do anymore.

Thankfully, in situations like this, I have the awesome Melissa to rely on. She has done what I, in my pregnant useless state have been unable to. She has chronicled my road to print publication as only a bookseller can. And I love her to death for it. I admit, I miss the bookstore terribly. Little things- the way it smells like coffee and new books, the smiles, the laughs, the inside jokes. Gah. It’s just not the same being away from there. I fully intend to rectify that by visiting as often as possible once my gag reflex stops being upset by odd scents and motion sickness. This, btw, should be VERY soon. *crosses fingers*

Anyway, I’m uber proud to present my book, in all it’s bookstore glory:

Check out the Sidebar

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

I finally added Cinematic Royalty‘s cover to my sidebar, with a little note to look out for it. It’s coming this month people! YAY! :D

I’m enjoying today, my day off. I go back to work tomorrow. But I was able to stay up really late last night writing because I could sleep in today. That’s good stuff right there. I’m exhausted, granted, but I got a lot done. Finished another chapter in my WIP. *does happy dance* Book 2 is taking shape nicely. The writing doesn’t feel as tight or pretty as in Book 1, but let’s not forget that I worked on Book 1 for like 7 months. This one will be good, once I get a chance to go back and edit the actual words (which right now seem choppy and rushed).

The actual story is coming along though! And the dialogue is tight! Which excites me. My characters have completely taken over! :D Btw, I’m completely enamored by my hero. He’s completely grown up to be exactly who I imagined he could be. *faints* He’s so freaking gorgeous.

Today’s art is a little something that’s been inspiring me. Everything about the picture, the lighting, the mood, the look in her eyes… it’s naughty and beautiful all at once. Great photography by mehmeturgut @ deviantart. *fans herself*

And So It Is

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Well, I did it. I went on my very first job interview since high school! I’m not sure how to feel. I’m all grown up. Ha, ha. I can both cry and laugh at the strange revelation that brings. Don’t get me wrong. I’m a woman going on 22 years of age. You may think, ah, you’re a baby, but given my circumstances, I’ve lived a lot more than most people think. I mean, hell, I’ve been married for 3 years! Oh goodness… 3 years, that’s insane. :D

Anyway, back on subject, (forgive my rambling tendencies) I think it’s strange that the jobs I’ve gotten since school have been sort of word of mouth. They’ve totally stifled my interview skillz. Thankfully, I’ve had years of theater training and public speaking to prepare me for such moments. I am all about improvisation. Generally, that gets me through with flying colors. It’s just when something as yummylicious as a job at bookheaven, aka Barnes and Nobles, comes up, well, I tend to get clammy hands.

Overall? I think I did well. Honestly. I was just myself. I smiled, I laughed, I told a story anecdote or two. You know, the usual. The manager really seemed to like me. She was friendly and fun and I thought, yea, I’d love to work with her. Plus, there were a few things she told me which sort of sealed the deal in my mind regarding why this job is my DREAM job (other than being an author, of course) and why I’d be so perfect for it:

  • As a cafe employee, I would have to taste all of the products in order to honestly sell them. Ha, ha. *shakes head* I suppose I’ll suffer though having to taste pastries, cheesecakes, teas, coffees, etc. If I must. :-\ Pashaw! Come on, who can even say that with a straight face?
  • Regulars. Since childhood I’ve had this wacky dream of being a waitress. I love the idea of recognizing familiar faces, of building ties to people you don’t really know. There’s something so fun about it, so exhilarating. Imagine, at 9am Wednesday mornings I make a double espresso latte because so and so comes in at 9:10am. And they smile that huge smile of appreciation for remembering. :) *sigh* I can change the world one latte at a time.
  • Did I mention the incredible perks? Can we say book discounts?

Yea. Good stuff. They said they’d call me early next week. I’m going to be like a girl waiting for a guy to call since then. NOBODY better touch the phone. I might get explosive on them. ;)

In other random news, I bought a great pair of sneaks today. I plan to start training for next year’s Labor Day Race. 5k or bust. :D Maybe it’ll help drop these last 20lbs I’m carrying around. Argh.

Today’s art: mosterd @ deviantart.

NO DWQ today. I’ve babbled enough. Expect one tomorrow though. ;)

Oh man, have I got news for you…

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

I woke up today to a wonderful message in my inbox. There was an attachment. It looked something like this:

Do you know what that is? I do, I do! :D That’s my cover!!!!! *yelps like a crazy fangirl* Isn’t it purdy? CoverVan is a genius. He proved it with Scorcha’s Heart by Debbie Mumford and he proved it again with this. (Actually, with another really incredible cover I saw on their coming soon page, which got me all jealous cause it was STUNNING…)

I’ve been stroking the screen for hours, just staring at it. That’s my cover. To my book. OMG! How did that happen? Ha, ha. I’m so psyched and proud and beyond myself right now. It’s my very first book. And it’s going into publication. This is all real and not some thing I made up in my insane dreams of grandeur. Oh happy days.

To make matters even better, I got back to writing on my WIP tonight and finished a CRUCIAL scene. My current wordcount? You guys won’t even believe me. LOL I hardly believe it myself. 53,658. *faints* I KNOW! Crazy, right? I’m like a chapter or two away from the major climax. I’ve already started things on a slippery, albeit heartbreaking slope. Now if I can only figure out how to get there. It’s only a matter of time now. ;)

So yea, good stuff has definitely been happening on the writing front. Lets hope the streak continues.

That was just too silly to pass up. ;)

Joined the MySpace Bandwagon

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Finally! :) I’ve been meaning to get on board that train for quite some time. But MySpace tends to scare me a bit.

But I’ve finally done it! Thus far, I’ve only found a few of the authors I know on there… but I hope to do more searching tomorrow.

Let me know how you like the layout as well. I made it myself, on one of those generators. :D I’m very proud of it.

So without further ado, click to see:

P.S. I wrote about 156 words today. Better than zero, still not my goal. :( Been away from my darling WIP for too long.
