Short and Sweet

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

What’s the deal with the weather today? It’s practically 80 degrees. Isn’t it supposed to be fall? I mean the kids are back in school. Some leaves are turning and falling. I think it’s time for 60s weather. For sweaters and boots and jeans. :) Ah yes, I love the fall.

On another random note, I’m exhausted and think I’m going to go down for a nap. Running on 2 hours of sleep, a long, hectic day with hubby which involved going out of town to meet some friends, and a book that’s gone unread. Happily, the reason I didn’t sleep was that I finished that annoying climax. ;) At least it’s as good as it’ll get for a while. I was able to move on.

Missing Scenes

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I’ve read through my WIP (the half I have written of it thus far) and realized I had some missing scenes to make sense of my external conflict. I’ve added a scene here and there. I really think they add a lot to the whole storyline so I’m pretty excited. You’re probably wondering why I bothered to go back and read it and add scenes if the book itself isn’t complete. Part of the reason, the conflict is pretty complicated and needs to have a solid foundation before I move forward. The other part? I’m terrified of moving forward.

AHA! The truth comes out. Tell me, please, why are middles so hard? *sigh* I feel a nervous tick coming on every time I open the Word Doc. I know where it’s headed, but the very idea of being so close makes my palms sweaty. And ewww… its so not fun to write with sweaty palms.

I’m pushing forward. I miss my CPs who’ve both kind of been really busy lately. They always made me feel somewhat in control. But I’m pushing along. I’ll be ok. Right? RIGHT? *ahem* Sorry, didn’t mean to freak you out with my panic attack there.

Let’s go on to our DWQ, shall we? We’re on #6 I believe! Woohoo!! This one goes out to Cora Zane, who seems to be enjoying them! :)

Lord! when you sell a man a book you don’t sell just twelve ounces of paper and ink and glue – you sell him a whole new life. Love and friendship and humour and ships at sea by night – there’s all heaven and earth in a book, a real book. ~Christopher Morley

This quote hit particularly close to home because I write fantasies and sci-fis mostly. Books in which you really do create a new heaven and earth, and have to make the reader believe it. Sure, they know it’s fake, but can they suspend reality long enough to find the love and friendship and humor in the book? Do they forget, even if only for a second, that these characters aren’t real? That’s a sign that you’ve created a good book.

Ok. I just got struck with an awesome idea for my WIP. Let me go. Strike while the iron’s hot, you know?

I added 2k to my WIP tonight, moving me up to 40k. All while on sleeping pills and stimulants. No, I’m not a druggie. Stimulants=prescription. Sleeping pills for my aforementioned insomnia. lol

Yea, maybe I should write a tribute to freaking opium. ?

Monday Plans

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Ohhh, it’s Monday. Usually, I’d be groaning. Or shrugging. Mondays are one of those days that I can kind of either take or leave, you know? Depending on the type of Sunday I had before it, Mondays don’t mean much of anything to me. Except this week!

Monday is bringing some very exciting things my way. For starters, I’m finally changing webhosts. I know I kept telling you guys about my issues with Geocities. Yea, I’m not even going to go into detail, because, overall, I was just really disappointed. I mean, you figure, as big as Yahoo is, they could afford to have good service. And I mean it wasn’t horrible, but the glitches just really tick me off. I don’t like it when I can’t get into my own ‘dashboard’ area and work on my page. But I digress… today is a day of good news. :D So yea, I’m moving. And finally getting set up with WordPress, which from what I hear, is like heaven’s answer to the internet. We’ll see. Hopefully I’ll be able to figure it all out. I’m a bit technologically challenged.

My WIP is now over 35k!!!! AHHH! Sorry, had to get that out. Finally. I’m so excited. I really like what’s happening there. The progress is slow, but steady. So that’s a good thing.

And next Tuesday, is the qualifying night for the karaoke competition I was telling you all about. I’m terrified and excited all at once. I know I can really bring it home, but my nerves sometimes get the best of me. So I have to just suck it up and be AMAZING. *crosses fingers* I should go practice. ;)

Happy Monday peeps!
