Expect the Unexpected

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

I have a secret identity. By day, when crowned with the magical wreath of blue and white stars and a little plastic dragonfly I become the Winter Fairy. Curled ribbons become my long flowing blue hair. My eyes sparkle with snowflakes yet to fall. And my step become light sprints across the cafe floor.

Each word becomes a sudden unexpected song. When I run out of creative song ideas, I resort to Disney tunes. But not the kind everyone knows. No no. The random ones most people can’t remember. Like the theme Lady’s owners used to sing in Lady and the Tramp to their baby. Or the song Vanessa (Ursula the witch’s much sexier alter ego) sings into the mirror before her wedding to Eric. I have the uncanny gift of providing energy in the form of caffeinated beverages. They’re warm and comforting and come in a variety of seasonal flavors including Gingerbread, Peppermint and Toasted Marshmallow. This makes people happy. Which in turn makes me happy.

When I’m done with that alter ego, I become the smoky lounge singer. In this case, I’m preparing for a talent show I’m singing at tomorrow. Mentally, I have it all prepared. Two chairs, low lights, my guitarist beside me and me, singing really bluesy like the world might end tonight. Of course, it’ll be less perfect in reality. I’m exhausted. My voice is still shot from being sick. And I haven’t had as much time to practice as I’d like. But hey, a girl can dream, right?

Then, I get back to reality. Tonight, I came home hoping to write and instead, my eyes are already closing (even as I type this!). So that’s not going to work. However, last night I reread what I have of the WIP for my publisher and realized, much to my surprise, it makes sense! It’s quite fluid, really, considering I hardly remember even writing some of the scenes! That’s the magic of NaNo for you I suppose. Going back was a good idea however, to keep the consistency and character names all in tact. But I was surprised at how entertained I was somewhere near the middle. I’m a bit more than halfway now, it’s just a matter of figuring out how to wrap it all up. Which I’m very excited about. So, I did a bit of writing last night and broke 27k. Not bad.

I can sleep tonight knowing I’ve done all I set out to do today. :D Happy Friday to all!

It's Friday!

Which naturally means: Weigh-in Day!

I’m now on week 7 of my medically supervised weightloss program. Overall I’ve lost 22 1/2 lbs. I’m very proud of my success, but I tell you it doesn’t come easy. While the first 3 weeks I looked forward to weigh-in day, now I just sort of grunt. The process is starting to slow down, to regulate. Last week I lost one pound. The doctor asked me if I had cheated on the program. Now, I know that is probably something he has to ask everyone. Procedure, you know? But… WTF? Seriously? I paid 500+ dollars to join this program. I’ve seen GREAT results. Why would I cheat? Wouldn’t that just be a waste of both of our time?

Turns out a lot of people do cheat. *grumbles* Idiots. I don’t know why you’d try something so life changing only to change your mind partway through. I’ve done what they asked me to. Drank more water. Did more exercise. I’m hoping that this week I’ll be back up to 3-4 lbs. If not, we may have to figure out what’s causing my metabolism to deflate like a balloon.

Then it’s off to the gym. If I lose a lot of weight this week, I’ll work out extra hard, just so that I can lose more next week. It becomes a personal challenge. I’m always competing against myself. If I don’t lose enough, I’ll work out even harder, because I want to make sure next week is a good week. So I guess either way, I win, huh? ;)

Last night I was up until like 4am working on that scene I was telling you guys about. It’s finished. It needs tweaking, but it’s finally finished. I’m going to leave it alone and move on. It’s held my attention long enough.

My wonderful CP Ansha told me that according to a workshop she read, I’m a liner writer. I think she’s totally correct. I don’t like having too many drafts. I keep the process as short and simple as possible. I also HAVE to work in linear order. Scenes MUST be from beginning to end. I have issues jumping around. And if I do, it’s only a few scenes ahead, it can’t be like, 5 chpts ahead. Sure, it’s the OCD method of writing, but it works for me. So I’m thrilled to say I’m not at 42k. 8k away from my first major goal. :D

The halfway mark! Can you believe it? That’s pretty exciting! I plan to reward myself for it. Haven’t decided how yet, though a nice pair of shoes is starting to look appealing. Then it’s back to work. Gotta try to hit 75k at that point. Ha, ha. Relentless, I know. ;)

Happy Friday everyone and enjoy your weekend!

Tagged!

Oh! I’ve been tagged by Tempest over at MMC!

Here are the rules:

- Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
- People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
- At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.-

Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

8 random facts/habits about me …

1. I can crawl down the side of the wall with my hands until my body is nearly bent completely backwards. (I’m also a bit out of practice, so I could just picture my back doing a nice loud crack)
2. My first concert ever was *oh goodness* Backstreet Boys. I think I just gave away my age. lol
3. My grandmother used to make octopus salad and I hated looking at the little suction cups on the tentacles, but could eat it as long as my eyes were closed.
4. I have a rock star complex (like you all didn’t know that!).
5. My hair is so thick, I actually can’t stay outside for very long in the summer because I get heat stroke so easily from the furnace/sauna on my scalp.
6. I love 80s fashion, or the lack there of.
7. I’m afraid of the dark.
8. I can watch the History Channel and Travel Channel for hours on end and never get bored. Weird, huh?

Honestly, I don’t even KNOW 8 people (yes, thats sarcasm, hush it, lol) but I figure whoever wants to give this a go, feel free! Consider my whole blog friend list tagged!
