Monday Morning Weekend Recap

Monday, March 16th, 2009

So, it’s Monday morning and I’m proud to say I’m up, showered, and have already had the first half of my McDonald’s Caramel Iced Coffee. And it’s only 11:15am. Not bad. Baby bear had a weigh-in appointment at his pediatrician today. He’s had a lot of latch-on problems and lost a significant amount of weight when we came back from the hospital. I’ve since been referred to a lactation consultant and have followed a weekend boot camp that has thankfully brought him back up to birth weight! As of this morning, he’s actually 2 oz heavier than when he was born – so yay for that!!! I’m so proud of my little munchkin. He’s eating mommy out of house and home but it’s nice to see him doing well. He’s so much healthier and more alert now that he’s eating properly.

The weekend was filled with timed bottle feedings, pumping, and television. LOTS of television – because otherwise, I fall asleep. (Just about anything knocks me out these days). Because of my unusual schedule, I’ve found myself enjoying things on TV I would never have given a chance before.

CBear has been following the March Madness games. Although I’m a fan of basketball, I’ve never been big on watching games on TV. I like the live stuff, find it much more exciting. However, I have to admit that the last few Syracuse games have been something to watch! Their 6 overtime game against UCONN?! Seriously. That’s exciting stuff. And it’s suddenly given me the hankering to head to the park and play a game of bball myself. I think this summer will be full of healthy activity!

I also saw an episode of a show called Legend of the Seeker. I’d never seen the show before but I’d heard of it. I watched an entire episode and found myself engrossed nearly immediately. It’s very Arthurian looking. It has monsters, magic, and all kinds of major good and evil stuff going on. It made me eager to get back to writing, particularly the fantasy story sequel I left hanging at the climax right before I gave birth! Now I’m itching to go online and watch all the episodes available. I may have just found a fun new show. Let’s hope all the episodes are as fun and intense as the one I saw. Otherwise, I’ll be sorely disappointed.

I’ll admit, I’m a little bummed that I won’t be able to attend a Twilight DVD party. But I’m hoping to send the hubster out to buy me a copy. I’m itching to reread New Moon in honor of the pre-production filming stuff they’ve got going on up in Vancouver. ;)

So wow, this post is way longer than I expected it to be. Let me go finish watching THE VIEW and get myself a nap in before Peanut wakes up. And can I just finish off by saying that it’s totally unfair how gorgeous Elisabeth Hasselback looks pregnant? I never looked that good. Blah to her.

Happy Monday all!

This Is Just the Prologue

Monday, May 12th, 2008

And here it is. Another Monday. Hard to believe another week’s gone by. Time seems to be flying doesn’t it? I had the pleasure of a three day weekend. Having Mondays off is strange. Mostly because it always feels like Sundays. But then Sundays feels like Saturdays, which makes Saturdays feel weird. HA HA.

I will say, however, that it would be great if every Monday started my week off the way this one did. Despite the odd weather, I was out of the house most of the day, which made my plan to tidy up and get my self straightened out difficult. I don’t regret a minute of it though.

For starters, I went out to Ikea this morning to have breakfast with my family. My adopted mother, sisters, and brother, (who took me in about 3 years ago when my real family moved away), are some of my very favorite people in the world. We actually are so close at this point that people have mistaken the dad of the family for my dad (which always cracks us all up!). We always have a million fun stories to tell and we laugh for hours. That in itself made getting up early worth it. But then, we decided to hit up the movies. Nothing like a Monday matinee to take the windy day blues away.

Finally saw Iron Man. I’ll admit, I loved it. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. I’ve never been a huge Robert Downey Jr. fan, but he won me over with his slick wit. And the chemistry between him and Paltrow was surprisingly electric. Her character, though cooky, was so much fun to watch. If you’ve been on the fence about checking it out, do so! You’ll be pleasantly surprised. But, be sure to stay til after the credits roll. ;) They threw in a 20 second surprise.

While the day is drawing to an end (already? no!), I’m doing what I promised myself I would. Putting away laundry, cleaning the bathroom, sweeping and mopping the kitchen. The stuff I tend to neglect during the week because of work and writing. And since I was away most of the weekend with the hubby at the grandmother’s abode, I’ve decided I gotta get it done before my official workweek begins bright and early tomorrow at 7am!

In writing news, I am past the climax in the contemporary sci-fi short story/novella I’m re-writing. I haven’t decided what I’m going to do with it just yet, but I have a little plan up my sleeve. We’ll see what happens when I’m finished.  I also have to get back to my futuristic/scifi romance. I’ve been very neglectful of it. I have like 6 chapters worth of edit to transpose to the computer document, a few scenes to rewrite/add in, and the rest of it to finish. I stopped smack dab in the middle of the climax. What can I say? I have performance anxiety. LOL

Hope you’ve all had a great weekend and a stupendous Monday.

Cloudy, With a Chance of Meatballs

What’s going on, blogfolk? How was your weekend?

I hope it was great and that you did all sorts of fun weekend-y things. They seem to fly by, don’t they? It’s terrible! It feels like I blink and BAM! It’s Monday again. *sigh* Oh well. C’est la vie.

I spent the weekend playing catchup on several things. Edits mostly. I’m so slow at editing. I tend to over-think and then re-think everything. I get frustrated, walk away, then go back to it, and obsess over poor word choice. Ha ha. Have I mentioned that I have an obsessive personality? It’s insanity, people. Pure insanity.

Either way, I gotta send out the chapter I was working on and start on the new one. I get angsty if I sit on edits too long. I just can’t handle having them hanging over my shoulder. It’s nearly impossible to write with that kind of pressure! My creative brain is like, eh, I don’t feel like doing work, let logical/rational side do something for a change. *sigh* Why can’t they just work together? They’re so stubborn! They stifle the muse, man. I just can’t have that.

In other news- (ha ha, I love saying that)- I have something pretty exciting to tell you guys, but I’m going to wait until I get a green light before I do it. :) So sit on that for a bit. H aha.

As for the random blog post title, it’s actually the name of a witty little children’s book and it inspired dinner this evening, so I thought, eh, homage given where due.

Happy Monday all!

Great Expectations

Monday, January 7th, 2008

It’s Monday again. Doesn’t it feel like the weekends just fly by? Thankfully, I really got A LOT done this weekend. I’m feeling quite productive. My house looks great. It’s dusted, vacuumed, swept, mopped, etc. Dishes are done. Counters scrubbed. It’s nice, to see my house looking presentable again. Being on deadline meant nothing got done. Poor Chocolate Bear, he was probably ready to pull his hair out. I also told him I’d get better about cooking every day. That seemed to really perk him up. ha ha.

So I’m back to working on my fantasy WIP. After my epiphany (I love that word), I did a few rough sketches of the first few scenes and how they have to work in order for the book to head in the right direction. A lot of it is messy cut and paste, with a little rewriting as glue. I’ve got about 30k of one version already written, and another 14k of a second. I didn’t want to lose nearly 50k by starting from scratch. And some if it is really very good (if I may say so myself). Character wise, some of the scenes just shined. So, hopefully this technique will work and not blow up in my face.

I’ve also gone back to read Book 1, to get a better sense of what I was doing and to prove I was right in my sporadic moment of genius. Thus far, I was. ;) Ha ha.

I hope you all have a productive, happy Monday!

Just Need a Few Days…

Monday, July 9th, 2007

So right now, I’m cleaning my house one item at a time. The movement of each item takes me… oh I don’t know, like 8 minutes. The heat is suffocating. Why didn’t anyone warn me that skylights=magnifying glass in the sun? Of course, I’m the ant. And I so don’t want to implode. My usual cleaning, done Saturday and Sunday, was postponed to today because of the heat. The weekend was miserable and my insomnia was the usual, up until its morning type thing, then I slept all afternoon in front of a fan on high blowing right on my face. I looked like I was drunk/passed out. I expected to wake up in some dive in Mexico, with my dashing hero asking if I was ok, sitting across from me on a plush loveseat, looking a little weary, like maybe we were Bonnie and Clyde hiding from the law or something. *wide eyes* Wow, I really thought about that a lot more than I realized. LOL I told you, the heat is making me delirious.

Anyway, I won’t be around again til Wednesday. Getting my hair done for the karaoke competition tomorrow. Having another meeting for the Couture for Cancer benefit fashion show. Cleaning house. And practicing my singing. So I’ll be all over the place. ;)

In the meantime, I’m revamping my website, which has moved servers. *FINALLY* I’m trying to figure out the new format/dashboard/control panel or whatever of the host. I’ve only ever used Yahoo, which tends to hold your hand about a lot of things. Hopefully I’ll have it up and going soon!

Happy Monday my darlings. :)
