Time Conscious

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

I have quite a dilemma on my hands. In this brain cell frying heat, I’ve had to limit my laptop time to avoid overheating. Not to mention how insanely hot the computer gets while on my lap. The two fans blowing in my direction don’t seem to help keep it cool (is there anything that can keep a laptop cool or will I just need to purchase one of those lap desk things that you serve breakfast in bed on?)

Anyway, as you can tell by my very distracted commentary, I’ve had a lot of trouble concentrating on too much at once, which is why my blogging has been limited. I’ve had to learn to use my time wisely. If the laptop is going to be on for 2 hours, then those 2 hours need to be used for writing. And you know what? That has worked out well. I’ve been working scene by scene, on not just one project, but two!

My fantasy sequel is taking shape. It’s a good 30k in, I’ve filled in a lot of the glaring plot holes that were haunting me, and with some of the new subplots I’ve managed to figure out how to up the stakes. Once I get to the part where I left off before I wrote myself into a corner, I think I’ll have a good idea how to end it. *sigh* The life of a pantser is a difficult one. Never knowing where the wind is going to take me. It can be nerve wrecking.

My YA fantasy is also coming along nicely. Chapter two is about done and the world is becoming clearer and more lush with each scene. The characters fascinate me, theyre so distinct and specific to their world, which makes the whole world feel that much more real. I have high hopes for that story. It’s probably the most high fantasy I’ve ever written. When it’s all said and done it’s going to be a mish mash of fairytales with a touch of Romeo and Juliet.

I hope to keep this focus and progress going, even when the weather cools. Although I do plan on taking more daytrips when that happens. But, in the meantime, I’m glad to be feeling productive.

In my time off, I’ve been doing some reading and catching up on Series 3 of the new Doctor Who. David Tennant, I love thee. :)

Hope everyone is having a good Wednesday!

Just Need a Few Days…

Monday, July 9th, 2007

So right now, I’m cleaning my house one item at a time. The movement of each item takes me… oh I don’t know, like 8 minutes. The heat is suffocating. Why didn’t anyone warn me that skylights=magnifying glass in the sun? Of course, I’m the ant. And I so don’t want to implode. My usual cleaning, done Saturday and Sunday, was postponed to today because of the heat. The weekend was miserable and my insomnia was the usual, up until its morning type thing, then I slept all afternoon in front of a fan on high blowing right on my face. I looked like I was drunk/passed out. I expected to wake up in some dive in Mexico, with my dashing hero asking if I was ok, sitting across from me on a plush loveseat, looking a little weary, like maybe we were Bonnie and Clyde hiding from the law or something. *wide eyes* Wow, I really thought about that a lot more than I realized. LOL I told you, the heat is making me delirious.

Anyway, I won’t be around again til Wednesday. Getting my hair done for the karaoke competition tomorrow. Having another meeting for the Couture for Cancer benefit fashion show. Cleaning house. And practicing my singing. So I’ll be all over the place. ;)

In the meantime, I’m revamping my website, which has moved servers. *FINALLY* I’m trying to figure out the new format/dashboard/control panel or whatever of the host. I’ve only ever used Yahoo, which tends to hold your hand about a lot of things. Hopefully I’ll have it up and going soon!

Happy Monday my darlings. :)

Maybe It's the Heat

I just feel so sluggish today. I had a busy morning, but as soon as I hit the gym, the little reserve of energy I had evaporated. Now I just want to veg in front of the TV. Which isn’t good. Because I should finish folding laundry. And mop the bathroom floor. And maybe even vaccum a bit. But you can count on that not being done tonight. For a second I considered writing, but even my brain has slowed down to a strange kind of, chill mode, where I’m not thinking more than maybe a word or two at a time. Like swimming in jello. There’s a thought…

So yea, wordcount for today, a measly: 260. And I think even that was pushing it. Because it’s pretty icky stuff. LOL But eh, the off days come. I’m not gonna kill myself over it.

Hope you’re all staying cool and hydrated. And that your thought capacity (unlike mine) is greater than a cucumber.

Weekend Woes

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Hubby got pretty sick this weekend. I think he didn’t drink enough water at work on Friday. He came home throwing up and miserable all afternoon. I gave him some popsicles and got some gingerale. When it was all said and done with I was just as exhausted from the running around and clean up. Had to bring out the Lysol, just in case it was a bug of some sort.

All in all, I’m starting to notice our place is horrendously hot. To the point where I’m practically delirious. We have to get our central air fixed or I’ll die. Period. We’ve filled giant water bottles and are trying to keep ourselves hydrated. Let’s hope it works.
