Happy Friday

Friday, November 6th, 2009

This has been a LONG week. Glacial. Peanut is teething so he’s been really cranky most of the week. Crying lags, early morning wake ups, and wanting mommy to hold him and coddle him all day. And I’m ok with that. I just wish there was more I could do for the poor baby.

I also got notice that I’ll be going back to work in about two weeks. It’s only seasonal, and now that Black Friday is coming up, things do tend to get really busy so I’m hoping my presence will be a big help. I’m only working opening shifts so that I won’t miss more than two hours with my baby. I’ll be at work about two hours before he even wakes up. My grandma is coming to keep an eye on him. The extra money will be great so that I can get him the things he needs. More bowls and sippy cups, a gate to keep him in my living room and away from the entertainment center. Ha ha.

Anyway, enjoy your weekend guys. I know I plan to.

I make no qualms about the fact that I’m a corny fangirl. I’m not ashamed of it. In fact, I get giddy when I find other fangirls like myself who I can gab with about favorite books, or shows, or characters. But one show which I started watching for a reason other than great storyline, great characters, or a trustworthy rec is Gossip Girl. My friends had talked about it a bit (around the time the Twilight movie was being cast and Chase Crawford‘s name was floating around the Twilight boards as the perfect Edward) but I had no real interest in watching it. Just wasn’t my cup of tea. Like with reading, I hardly have an interest in contemporary fiction. I don’t even really watch contemporary dramas on tv. I can do comedies… but that’s a whole different ballgame.

And then I started catching the photographs, or episode stills to be more precise. And my geeky fashion loving little heart started to pound. I wanted- nay- needed to watch this show if only to satisfy my love for all things preppy and couture. And it has never disappointed. There’s something for everyone. A little boho chic for the Serena lovers. Updated Jackie-O prep for us Blair lovers. And of course edgy rock in the form of Jenny Humphrey. How could you go wrong? I eventually came to love the characters (Blair + Chuck= onscreen magic!) but I still say that given the money I would be all over some of those fashion styles.

I was given the chance to test that theory. Ha ha. A dangerous situation, if you ask me. You see, my little sister had her prom tonight. And she generously asked me to help her choose her look for the evening. My sister is a really modern gal. She has a great body and is very bold. She can wear anything and tends to lean toward urban chic. I took her in the exact opposite direction. I made her my own little upper east sider with some Brooklyn flair, ala Little J. This was the final result:

Ignore the messy house, ok? I have a baby who makes me nutty and won’t let me put him down or he’ll cry. Ha ha. Anyway, doesn’t she look FAB!?? I was very proud of my finished product. She looked GORGEOUS. Elegant, edgy, and youthful. The theme of the party is masquerade. She didn’t actually wear the mask, but dude, I couldn’t help reenacting the GG eppy “Handmaiden’s Tale”, hence the mask. ha ha. So yea, that was my stint as fashion editor. It was fun.

In more everyday news, I’m proud to announce that I actually finished the first chapter of my high fantasy YA novel! I’m amazingly psyched about this novel, it’s a weird mix of fairytales with a Romeo and Juliet undertone. I think it’s going to be one of my favorites that I’ve ever written. I also wrote about half a scene for my fantasy sequel Zerah… I really can’t wait for the first book to be released. I love these characters more than I could say. This was that book of the heart people talked about for me. I’ve had it in mind since my first year of college. And it went through many, many incarnations before it took on a life of its own and found its voice. So although my progress is slow… at least its progress. :) I may even post a little snippet or a fave line soon, in order to get myself pumped. Look out for that!

Here’s a song I’ve been using in my writing quite a bit lately. Enjoy it. And Happy Friday!

Friday? Really?!

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Man, I really suck at this blogging thing. My apologies blog-o-sphere. The days have all kind of melded into one long pool of sleeping, eating, showering and feeding the little one. I truly apologize for my absence. Most days I’m too exhausted to post anything interesting anyway- though I have been able to keep up with blog posts and tried commenting when I had a free minute!

Surprisingly enough, I had a flash of inspiration the day before yesterday and wrote down some notes on my fantasy sequel. I’m so glad I printed that sucker out  before I went into labor. I rewrote the first few paragraphs because the beginning was really annoying me and I started chapter nine. Not bad. ;) I may give it another go in a few days when I’m not totally sleep deprived. But YAY! I count that as a celebration.

I hope you all have an amazing weekend. I have no special plans but I may rent a movie or two. In the meantime, enjoy this awesome dance break from one of my very favorite movies of all time.

Freakin’ hysterical. “I live in my sister’s basement…!” This movie is the one I pop in at 12:30am when Peanut won’t let me sleep and I need to laugh. It rocks.

Happy Friday!!!

A day full of appointments and if I can squeeze it in- a nap!!! :)

Wanted to wish you all a happy Friday before I forgot, and to remind you to laugh, love, and live this weekend.

Peace out!

As usual, things are busy busy on this end.

CBear and I finished painting the nursery tonight! *squee* FINALLY! We’re letting it dry before we take out all the tarps/plastic/tape. Tomorrow afternoon is dedicated to the big ‘move-in’. My mother, grandmother, next door neighbor from when I was like twelve, my brother and a friend of his are all swinging by to give my house an overhaul and get that baby room COMPLETE. Hubby has to do some work things out of the house, but when he gets back he may not recognize the place! :)

I do have some pictures chronicling my progress. I absolutely plan to post those, if not later on tonight, then definitely some time tomorrow. Look out for those! There will be lots of baby goodness. :D

I’ve also managed to get some work done on fast draft. For the week I’ve written about 1k. Which may sound like nothing, considering some authors can pull out 2k+ a day! However, I’m proud of my humble numbers. I’ve managed to write despite baby brain, exhaustion, impossible amounts of cleaning/nesting, prepping, painting, etc. I’ve actually had an insanely productive week.

Not to mention, I’ve been preparing for a book signing next Saturday! Look out for the official post/announcement for that on Monday.

Hope you’re all having a slamming Friday! And here’s a dance break for your enjoyment: (dance break + eyecandy! Yes, Isabelle DOES love you all).
