The Business Aspect

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

So it’s January 7th and there is no doubt that the new year is in full swing! I spent New Year’s in Cape Cod where I usually do some of my best writing, but as luck would have it, I left my laptop home and had no access to the internet except through my phone. Major bummer because my husband’s aunt has the most incredible sun room. I call it my writing room. I love sitting there and staring out the window at the pond and just letting my characters live in my head. I’ll jot down whatever runs through my mind, even if its not necessarily part of my planned plot. Every once in a while, I’ll find a real gem there!

Writing Room

Speaking of writing, I’m thrilled to announce that the end of Zerah’s sequel is in sight! So for those of you that have read the book and want to know what’s next… it’s coming! :) I’m about three-five chapters from the end. Then it’s on to Book 3. :-P

But mostly, I’ve been focusing on the business of being a writer lately. I’ve been loyal to my blog posts over at Hollow Tree (and reading lots of great YA fantasy fiction!). I wrote up an interview which will be up on January 12th (I’ll give you the deets as we get closer). And I’ve been contacting review sites for Zerah’s Chosen. Today, I was thrilled to be the guest author at Literary Escapism, which I’ve mentioned here before. It’s such a great place and it feeds my fantasy hungers with information on new releases, happenings around the web, contests, and cover art. I highly suggest checking out Jackie’s site. You won’t be disappointed.

Ok, going to go relax. Tired from work today.

OH! And go congratulate us over at Tales from the Hollow Tree! We had out 100th post today! :) Sweet.

Angela Korra’ti is holding an awesome contest!

Anyone who reviews or rates either any Drollerie Press work, and sends her proof that they have done so, will be entered in a random drawing for a $20 gift certificate to the book vendor of your choice. In particular, if you select Drollerie, this’ll be twenty bucks you can spend on a whole bunch of tasty on-sale ebooks!

Here are the types of evidence of reviews/ratings she will accept:

  1. Links to review posts on your own journals or blogs
  2. Links to review posts on appropriate forums
  3. Links to review posts on Goodreads, LibraryThing, or other similar sites
  4. Links to reviews on Drollerie’s site, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Powell’s, or any other vendor where Drollerie works are sold
  5. If you’re a customer on a site where you may only rate rather than review a book, get her a screenshot of whatever you had to do to rate the book. (Be sure to blur out any personal information on the screenshot before you send it, though.)

Note also that while good reviews are shiny, honest reviews are shinier, so please be sure to post your actual, legitimate thoughts on the works in question! The important thing is that you help spread the word about Drollerie’s books.

She will accept entries until Saturday, October the 10th. Please send your entries either in the form of email to annathepiper AT gmail DOT com with the subject line “Review Contest”!

Book Release Day!

Zerah’s Chosen, Book I of The Guardian Circle romantic fantasy series, is out today from Drollerie Press!

This series, and this book in particular, is my baby, my heart and soul, the book I’ve worked on for years before finally getting it the way it was in my head. The characters all live and breathe like real people for me and I love them, faults and all. I really hope you’ll enjoy this new world I’ve created. I plan to spend a lot of time there. ;)

option1Fate chose those who were worthy and marked them at conception. This mark sealed their destiny.

In Zerah, Guardians of Water, Air, Fire, Earth, and Death are chosen by The Beings to serve their people. Able to feel the emotions the Beings cannot, they help their world stay in balance.

Guardians live and die together, but when Kieran is born with the marks that prove he’s the Guardian of Death, his mother hides him instead of giving him up to the temple. She loves him too much to lose him. But then he starts seeing people die, and they’re begging him for help. Trying to remove the “curse”, he inadvertently kills a seer and is brought to the attention of the temple.buy the book

His mother is imprisoned and he’s turned over to the temple. The rest of his life, he’s expected to live there, study with the other Guardians, learn the right ways to use his power.

Amaya, the embodiment of Water, breaks through his brittle shell, helps him to see that all of life isn’t bleak, but they’ve sworn a vow and love for one another isn’t part of it. He’ll never know the people he must eventually lead into the next life, never know love, never be free.

If he stays…

Keep an eye out for an excerpt tomorrow!

In the meantime, post a comment about your favorite elemental and why and you’ll be entered to win a pack of glitter fairy tattoos and a free copy of Zerah’s Chosen!
