Round 1 Goes to the Characters

Monday, November 10th, 2008

So they took round one. I’m woman enough to admit it. Though it does peeve me to no end. I decided the best thing for all involved (including the characters who were *this* close to getting deleted) was to take a step back from the project. I was obsessing. That’s never good. I start questioning everything, losing perspective.

Now, I’ve gone back to work on my futuristic romance which to my great surprise is actually more than halfway done. Now it’s all about resolutions. Tying up loose ends. Pointing fingers. All the good stuff. I’m at over 51k. That makes me very happy. The only thing- and it’s perfect irony really- is that I’m having trouble focusing on this because my mind is still on the fantasy story that I stepped away from! Evil characters.

Round 2 will begin shortly. I can tell. I won’t be able to resist them long. But I plan on winning the next round. Characters everywhere, be warned.

Let The Rain Fall Down

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Another day of downpours and thunder, although today seems to be more of a touch and go. Rainy one minute, calm the next. I feel like I’m in Florida. ;) (wishful thinking)

I spent the day at work where I came across a young woman straight out of a sitcom. I swear I’ve never seen someone more stereotypical in my entire life. She WAS Suzanne Summers character in Three’s Company.

Remember Chrissy?

I kid you not. This girl had long, blonde hair and she wore it kind of big, lots of volume and waves. It was in a messy side ponytail and I swear to goodness, she actually twirled her hair while she ordered her sandwich. I just blinked and stared at her because I kept telling myself it wasn’t real. It had to be some twisted figment of my character driven imagination, right? Ha ha. But, she gave me a blank look, blinked her own lashes, and pouted a bit. I nearly laughed out loud. I couldn’t have written her better if she HAD come from my imagination.

*happy sigh* It’s days like this I love my job. The things I see are enough to inspire characters for the rest of my life.

Speaking of which… some of my pre-existing characters are giving me major grief and facing the possibility of extinction if they don’t cooperate. *shrugs* Just saying.

Here's a Story…

Friday, May 30th, 2008

My writing progress for the week, told in the form of a symbolic story:

I’m riding along on my bike, trailing happily, looking at the view. It’s stunning. Full of wildflowers and bright green grass. I ride faster, spurred by the cool breeze and sunshine. The bumpy road doesn’t deter me. In fact, it only exhilarates me further. The world is now a blur of color as I zoom by. Flying. Going fast.

Too fast.

Can’t stop.

Is that a-

Wait, no-

Crap.

*BRICK WALL*

The End

And that’s still where I am. At the brick wall. Wondering why on Earth my story just stalled. It’s like my characters decided to take a vacation and didn’t leave a number. *shakes head* I wrote two entire scenes where their bodies were present, but their souls were GONE. Now I’m worried.

Maybe I can put out an ad:

WANTED- Loyal characters willing to trust their master and obey her. Promise of true love and happiness. Must be willing to suffer terrible, life altering trials first. Threat of death always imminent if master is displeased.

What? Don’t think that’ll attract any attention? ;)

Have a splendid Friday, folks!

Argh

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

I know, I know. I’m a bad blogger! What can I say? I fell asleep today at about 4pm when I got home from work and I woke up at about 10pm. I then proceeded to cook dinner (I hear you laughing at me). It’s not about 1:53am. I’m nearly half asleep still so I think I may just go pass out in a few seconds, but I didn’t want to disappear without letting you guys know I’m still around and alive (somewhat).  Just swamped. I’m doing edits/rewrites on a story, as well as figuring out my ever-changing, epic, going to drive me up the wall fantasy series I’m always talking about. I love those character to death, but I swear they’ll be the death of me!

On that note, I will use this time to praise my wonderful CP, Miranda Heart, and express all of my love and devotion and promises to serve her for eternity (or at least a long, long time)! Never before has any one person truly understood the way my strange, demented thought process works (except for my Chocolate Bear, but it doesn’t apply to my creative stuff, just my other weird, every day stuff). Anyway, Miranda always manages to ask the right questions and to get me to think. Really think. I love talking to her, just in general, because I feel that we’re such polar opposites that we really are drawn to each other and complement each other well. I get excited about her projects, and I feel she gets excited about mine. It’s a wonderful partnership and I’m so grateful to have her. *smooches to you Miranda*

Thanks to a 3 hour convo Sunday night, which resulted in me getting about 3 hours of sleep before opening at 7am at my job, I was hit across the head with my hero’s motivation. Her questions must have seeped through my mind as I slept. I wrote it down, thrilled to have it make so much sense and be so clear when many times, what these characters do is a frustrating mystery. So yay for that! Ha ha.

Tomorrow I will post another book review. I meant to do it today, but well, revert back to paragraph one for my excuse. ;)

Oh, and I wrote a short story and submitted it to the uber cool new magazine released by Drollerie PressScattered Things is definitely worth a look! They’ve got some amazing talent going on over there.

With that, I bid thee all a good night!

Fan-isms

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

So, I’ve become pulled into the awesome world of fanmixes. What is a fanmix, you say? Ahhh, well, let me share the incredible magic of this form of fanatical expression.

A fanmix is like a mixtape, devoted to your favorite fandom. It can be about anything. A major character, a couple, an unconventional couple (not someone who ever hooked up in said movie, tv show, or book), a friendship, or even a particular episode or book from a series. :D

I, being the music junkie that I am, find this whole concept to be deliciously addictive.

Livejournal has a great community for fanmixes. And I’ve seen a mix for just about everything you can imagine. Which of course, got me searching through my music archive for songs I could put together in some sort of fanmix. The mixes usually tell some sort of story. A progression of the story told, or some new story, from the mixer’s point of view.

I chose two of my characters in my fantasy series. They’re best friends, but he’s very much in love with her, and she’s very much in love with someone else. Ahhh… isn’t that what makes so much wonderfully angsty music? ;)

So I think, what I might just do, is make a little CD cover (in the tradition of all great fanmixes) and post it here in a few days, with the song title, artist name, and even a little lyric that tells you WHY it reminds me of this couple. It’ll be tons of fun. And maybe you all can make one and it’ll become a neat little meme.

Is it conceited that I’m making a fanmix of my own characters? Maybe. Do I care? Ha! Come on guys, you should know me better than this at this point in our relationship. ;)
